If you have ever done an internet search of popular restaurants in Puerto Vallarta, you have probably already heard of El Arrayán. Not only are they known for their fresh ingredients and blend of traditional with unique Mexican cuisine, they also have live music on Saturday nights and offer one-day cooking classes taught by their chef. El Arrayán is certainly a great choice but there are other restaurants that offer Mexican cuisine. Langostinos, for example, has tempting Mexican food and also has the added bonus of seating on the beach (inside seating also available)!

If you are a seafood lover, you are in luck! El Colera, for example offers delicious seafood entrees at a reasonable price. Encanto has a variety of tasty options including a coconut shrimp with a mango sauce. Tony's Please, run by, yes, you guessed it, Tony, has a variety of delicious menu options including frog legs! Ok, you might not consider that real “seafood” but Tony’s has other more traditional aquatic fare as well.

What you will quickly find in Puerto Vallarta, and its surrounding areas, is that these restaurants are used to a high level of tourism, with people from all over the world visiting, and are, therefore, influenced by different cuisines and by the need to please a variety of tastes. Though fresh local ingredients are used, and many restaurants will still offer the Mexican classics (or some variation of them) many restaurants have menus that offer a little something from everywhere. La Ronda is a favorite among the locals with its selection of tasty international and Mexican food. Cafe Roma tends to focus mainly on Italian cuisine but also serves wings, ribs, margaritas, and beer. What a tempting combination! Alaska's Diner offers a little bit of everything from fresh seafood to Thai curry to mac and cheese in a fun diner setting.

There are also those restaurants that have fully adopted an international cuisine. Harry's Bar, for example, is a good old English Pub in Old Town Puerto Vallarta! Harry’s has traditional pub food and drink as well as pool tables and, as an added bonus, Wi-Fi internet! If you are a fan of German food, give Hacienda Alemana a try. For Asian food, you will want to visit Archie's Wok or Bonsai.

When arranging your trip to Puerto Vallarta, be sure to make at least a few of these amazing restaurants part of your meal plan and also make sure to check out www.vallartalaestancia.com for luxury accommodations. The privately owned villas at La Estancia offer the conveniences of home in a beautiful resort setting with views of the Banderas Bay.

With its popularity now, it is difficult to believe that Puerto Vallarta was once a quiet fishing village and port town. Located in the state of Jalisco, Puerto Vallarta was founded on December 12, 1851 by Don Guadalupe Sanchez Torres and was originally named “Pierto Las Penas”, meaning “Port of the Rocks.” The village was first established as a port for the mines in the area to transfer silver. In 1918, this simple fishing village was made into a municipality and renamed Puerto Vallarta after Ignacio Vallarta, a former governor of the state.

Head to downtown Cabo San Lucas on October 18th to join in Fiesta de Cabo San Lucas, the celebration of the patron saint of Cabo. Festivities include a parade that passes through downtown’s closed streets. There are depictions of the patron, dances, music, and food. Lots of food! Street vendors set up around the area and serve local cuisine as well as international treats. The vendors and performances change every year which make it an enjoyable and unique experience each time. Best of all, there is no admission fee.

It was just after 3pm on day two in Cabo San Lucas when it hit me. I could live here.

360 days of sun every year, some of the best beaches in Mexico, a county of water sports and fishing, great restaurants, and plenty for “la familia” to do. Sure, I’d have to find a new career, but where there’s a will, there’s a way?

If you’re in the mood for a little live music and a nice atmosphere, head to downtown Cabo San Lucas and visit Legends Bar. Run by the multi-talented Wendy Tosoff, the bar was opened earlier this year and is already a great place to spend the evening.

Chances are, if you’ve seen a postcard of Puerto Vallarta, you’ve seen the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe (also known as the Church of Our Lady of Guadalupe and Guadalupe Church). Having taken nearly a century to complete, this church combines many architectural styles to create a beautiful place of worship.
