Cabo Blue Marlin World Cup Championship
Attention fishing enthusiasts!
This July, why not head down to Cabo San Lucas for the July 4th Blue Marlin World Cup’s silver anniversary?
Yes, it’s the 25th year of the Blue Marlin World Cup Championship which is an amazing fishing international event. Last year’s winner, Michael Corbino, took away the title of champion and a jackpot of over $450,000!! The winning fish last year weighed in at 773.5 pounds. Have you ever seen a fish that big?
The uninformed observer may see the blue marlin and mistake it for a swordfish but the marlin is actually larger. The blue marlin can reach up to 14 feet and can weigh nearly a ton. It is the female blue marlin that is generally larger than the male, often up to four times as big. The average weight of the blue marlin is between 200 and 400 pounds which makes last year’s champion catch of 773.5 rather impressive. The average female can live up to 27 years.
It is the marlin that is featured in Ernest Hemingway’s novella, The Old Man in the Sea, which is fitting given the blue marlin’s reputation for being difficult to locate as well as to catch.
Come be a part of an amazing event and while you’re in Cabo, think about staying at Villa La Estancia, the only condominium community located directly on the beach in Cabo San Lucas
