Cabo Beach Getaway
By Astrid Henninger
Sun, sand and relaxation can all be found in Cabo. Located at the tip of the Baja peninsula, Cabo is known for it’s white sand beaches, warm water and is a favourite destination for many Hollywood celebs including Jennifer Anniston and Jessica Simpson.

What to do
Spend the day at sea on the Ecocat Catamaran. The boat departs from the marina and sails towards San Jose along what is known as “the Corridor”. This stretch of coastline is home to Mexico’s most exclusive luxury resorts and private villas but keep your eyes to the sea where you’re likely to spot a few whales who’ve made the journey south to these warm waters for the winter.
If you’d rather keep your feet on land but feel like taking a break from the beach, there’s lots of shopping to be found in and around the marina. Jewelry shops are everywhere. The stores located on the marina promenade carry all the high-end designers, but the best deals will be found off the main drag. If you’re shopping for Mexican silver, don’t be afraid to bargain with the shop keepers.
Where to stay
Hotels located on Cabo’s main beach offer excellent views of the famous Cabo San Lucas Arch and are close to restaurants, shopping and nightlife in the marina. Villa La Estancia has a great location at the end of the strip. It’s close enough to the marina that you can walk there along the beach but just far enough to escape the crowds from the cruise ships and water taxis that line the shore. The hotel features a large free form swimming pool, 5 spa tubs scattered amongst the gardens and a friendly wait staff to serve you cold drinks right on the beach.
Restaurants and Night life
With so many restaurants to choose from, it’s wise to ask your concierge for some recommendations. If delicious, fresh seafood is what you’re in the mood for, head to the Shrimp Factory. Located just off the marina, this unassuming restaurant offers fresh jumbo shrimp prepared any way you like. For a fun and festive atmosphere try The Office, a lively open air restaurant on the beach with live music, tiki torches and tables in the sand. After dinner, take a stroll along the marina promenade where you’ll find many good bars and great people watching. Then head to Cabo Wabo for live music or Squid Row for a night of dancing.
